Net Zero Starts Within the Company

Decarbonisation is rapidly becoming a core strategic priority for manufacturing companies. Increasing regulatory requirements, volatile energy and raw material markets, and rising expectations across global value chains are fundamentally reshaping the industrial landscape. At the same time, it is becoming clear that the transition towards more climate-friendly production is no longer solely a matter of compliance. It is a decisive factor for long-term viability, resilience, and competitiveness.
Against this backdrop, RELINE has been consistently implementing a structured transformation programme aimed at reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions over the past several years. The latest findings of the 2025 Sustainability Report demonstrate significant progress in decarbonising the company’s operations, with Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reduced by approximately 70% since the base year 2020 — from 1,253 tCO₂e to 376 tCO₂e in 2025.

With only 376 tCO₂e remaining in 2025, direct operational emissions now account for only a very small share of the company’s overall corporate carbon footprint. This development highlights that substantial emissions reductions are achievable where decarbonisation is not treated as a series of isolated measures, but as a long-term transformation process guided by clear priorities and targeted investment.
A key driver of this progress has been the transformation of the company’s energy supply. RELINE has been operating entirely on renewable electricity across its sites for several years, marking a major step towards the decarbonisation of energy-intensive processes. In parallel, parts of the heating supply have been converted from fossil fuels to wood pellets. Particularly in mid-sized industrial companies, the transformation of heat generation is increasingly emerging as a critical yet often underestimated lever for reducing operational emissions.
In addition, the electrification of the company’s vehicle fleet is becoming an increasingly important focus area. As mobile combustion still accounts for a significant share of remaining Scope 1 emissions, RELINE is pursuing a clearly defined roadmap to gradually transition its fleet to zero-emission technologies. Across industries, fleet electrification is widely recognised as one of the most effective levers for reducing direct emissions — especially where renewable electricity already forms an integral part of the energy mix.
These achievements also mark a strategic turning point in the decarbonisation journey. While direct operational emissions are becoming increasingly manageable, indirect emissions along the supply and value chain are moving further into focus. For many industrial companies, this represents the next major challenge of the transition: building transparency around Scope 3 emissions, strengthening supply chain resilience, and driving emission reductions in close collaboration with partners and suppliers.
RELINE therefore follows a long-term decarbonisation roadmap with clearly defined interim targets. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by the end of 2027, while continuing to systematically reduce its remaining direct emissions. At the same time, RELINE understands decarbonisation not only as a climate initiative, but as part of a broader future-oriented strategy that integrates energy efficiency, technological innovation, supply security, and sustainable value creation.
The industrial transition towards Net Zero will require significant investment, technological advancement, and new forms of collaboration across entire value chains in the years ahead. Companies that establish robust transformation pathways early on and embed decarbonisation into their strategic core will not only generate environmental benefits, but also strengthen their long-term competitive position in an increasingly dynamic market environment.
